Harper was born and raised in Las Vegas with his parents. Harper went to Las Vegas High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has an elder brother named Bryan Harper, who was also a baseball pitcher. In an interview, Harper stated about his father who was an ironworker in Las Vegas, “I wanted to come out and I wanted to work hard because he worked hard. He did it for over 25 years.”
