Tokyo 2021 Paralympics: Boccia Schedule & Fixture

Since the 1984 Summer Paralympics, this boccia sport has first appeared. In this game competition, athletes who have cerebral palsy and are given a classification according to the extent of their disability.

There were originally two classes, C1 and C2, with C1 corresponding to those with more severe impairment.

There have four different classifications based on the athlete’s physical disability.

  • BC1: Cerebral palsy & May be assisted by an aide.
  • BC2: Cerebral palsy & May be assisted by an aide.
  • BC3: Cerebral palsy or another disability & Assisted by an aide (ramper)
  • BC4: Not cerebral palsy, but another disability, for example, muscular dystrophy or tetraplegia. And Not assisted by an aide.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics resumed to 2021, scheduled from 24th August to 5th September. And the boccia sports competition will be scheduled from 28th August to 4th September 2021 at Olympic Gymnastics Centre.

In total, 116 athletes will have participated in both disciplines in seven mixed events. Here is the full boccia sports competition schedule and fixture.

Boccia Medal Tally at Paralympics

South Korea is the top nation with 9 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 7 bronze medals in the medal table of Boccia sports. In the 2nd position, Portugal ranked with 8 gold medals. On the 3rd, Brazil got 6 gold medals till now.
